To characterize the capture efficiency of Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari) using interception traps (Yessica design), four heights were evaluated according to the distance from the base of the trap bottle to the ground (treatments): 0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 meters for the location of the traps on the plant. The trial was conducted in a coffee plantation located at the Jaime Henao Jaramillo Experimental Field Station, Faculty of Agronomy, Universidad Central de Venezuela, Miranda State (average temperature: 19.9 oC, average RH 83.8 %, average rainfall: 1 321.5 mm/year) during July-October/2004. The treatments (height) were replicated five times and distributed in a randomized block design. In each block, baited traps were placed at a distance of four meters between them on the same ground level curve, for eight periods of seven days. At the end of each period, traps were checked to remove the traps capture, refill them and change randomly their position. At the laboratory, the capture was identified and separated by orders and H. hampei. The catch values obtained for each height tested were expressed in terms of Borer/Trap/ Week (BTS) and the statistic analysis allowed to detect significant differences (p ≥ 0.05) between treatments, resulting the heights 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 m of similar efficiency to capture H. hampei.
