There is a persistent belief among high school students, (often extending to theirparents and even teachers and counsellors), that the ATAR can be “gamed”, andtherefore they should choose easier subjects in order to obtain a higher score overall.This belief is thought to be contributing to the decline in students taking moreadvanced mathematics in high school.
