TheMiddlePermian-LatePermianboundary(Guadalupian-Lopingianboundary,GLB)intervalischaracterisedbyimportantfaunalassemblagechanges.Thisextinction-turnoverepisodeisconsideredbysomeauthorstobethefirststepoftheend-Permianbiodiversitydrop.Theforty-fivemetersthicknessofsedimentencompassingtheGLBinChaotiansection(SichuanProvince,SouthChina)wassampledandprocessedforostracodstudy.ThisstudypresentsthefirstanalysisofostracodfaunasintheGLBinterval.Atotalof154speciesbelongingto29generaareidentified.Threespeciesaredescribedasnew:BairdiachaotianensisZazzali,n.sp.,MicrocheilinellawujiapingensisZazzali,n.sp.,MicrocheilinellapagodaensisZazzali,n.sp.Alltheostracodsdiscoveredinthesectionbelongtoshallowmarinetaxa.Sotheseresultsarenotconsistentwithpreviousinterpretations(lagoonalenvironmentordeepwatersetting)basedonotherevidences.AbundanceanddiversitypresentarapidandnoticeabledeclineintheEarlyCapitanian.RecoveryisthenrecordedaboutthreemetersabovetheGLB.Atspecificlevel,a93%extinctionrateanda96%turnoverratearerecordedattheGLB.Moreover,Palaeocopida,straightdorsalborderostracodsknowntoprogressivelydisappearfromtheLatePermiantothebasalMiddle-Triassic,areherelessabundantanddiversifiedaftertheGLB.ThiscouldreflectthefirststepoftheirdisappearanceattheendofthePalaeozoic.
