AnewsetofPaleoceneandEocenedecapodcrustaceansisdescribedfromtheKirtharRangeofPakistan.Twonewghostshrimps(Crustacea,Decapoda,Callianassidae)aredescribed:NeocallichiruskhadroensisHy?nyamp;Charbonnier,n.sp.fromthePaleocene(Danian,KhadroFormation)ofGawarBand,RanikotDistrict,andNeocallichiruslakhraensisHy?nyamp;Charbonnier,n.sp.fromtheEarlyEocene(Ypresian,LakhraFormation)ofRbodNala,JhirakDistrict.BothnewspeciesexhibitchelipedswhicharemorphologicallysurprisinglyclosetoextantNeocallichiruskarumba(Pooreamp;Griffin,1979)fromtheIndo-WestPacific.Agroupofspeciessharingthissamechelipedmorphologyisprovisionallycalledthe“karumbagroup”basedonNeocallichiruskarumba,bestdocumentedspecies.The“karumbagroup”encompassessevenfossilspecies:thetwonewPakistanispecies,Neocallichirustuberculatus(L?rentheyinL?rentheyamp;Beurlen,1929)n.comb.fromtheEoceneofHungary,NeocallichirusborensisBeschin,DeAngeli,Checchiamp;Mietto,2006fromtheEoceneofItaly,Neocallichirusbirmanicus(Noetling,1901)n.comb.fromtheMioceneofMyanmar,Neocallichirusdijki(Martin,1883)fromtheMioceneofJavaandPhilippines,andthesubfossilNeocallichirusmaximus(A.Milne-Edwards,1870)fromThailand.Basedupontheextantandfossiloccurrences,itisdifficulttoreconstructmigrationpatternofthe“karumbagroup”.Fornow,itcanbeconcluded,thatatthegenuslevel,arelativehomogeneityoftheghostshrimpsisobservedbetweentheEasternandtheWesternTethyanregions,asalreadysuggestedbyMerleetal.(2014)fortheassemblageofvolutidgastropodsfromtheLakhraFormation.
