The unidirectional motion of a particle in a static homogeneous gravitational field isstudied together with the motion of the source in the proper frame of the particle. Thenthe nongravitational counterpart, e.g. a charged particle in a static homogeneous electricfield, is considered. The comparison of both types of results establishes a formalsymmetry which may be useful in the transition from special to general relativity.
