Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a clasical example of an immune complex disease. Beacause there are not two patients who are identical, as regards the course of the disease the treatment should be individualized. SLE patients however, can be grouped by subsets, either throughout the course ot the disease or at certain episodes. Current treatment of SLE is mostly based on some form of generalized immune suppresion, antimalarials, steroids and non-steroid anti-inflamatory drugs, but some patients need new, sometimes experimental therapy. This article is a review of current knowledge about the SLE treatment.
