摘要

We utilized stochastic frontier analysis to find the economic impact of formal credit constraints on technical efficiency of credit-constrained and credit unconstrained wheat farmers. The technical efficiency of credit-constrained farmers varies about 9.83%. This study found that the credit-constrained wheat farmers were distinctive with higher mean efficiency if compared to that of credit unconstrained wheat farmers. The inefficiency effects model implies that technical efficiency of both groups of farmers was affected by land ownership, access to extension, tillage and quality seed. Furthermore, the interest rate has a negative effect on the technical efficiency whereas loan size has a positive effect on both groups of farmers. Our outcome reveals that the major suggestions for reduction of the credit constraints and inefficiency in wheat production by relaxing credit constraints facing farmers and the accessibility of modern agricultural machinery.
