Charlene Foggie-Barnett is the proposed opening nightlocal speaker for the conference. She is the TeenieHarris Archive Specialist at the Carnegie Museum of Art.She does a lot of speaking about the Teenie Harriscollection and its relationship to the city and the city’shistory. She is happy to tailor her talk to those aspectsof the archive and the city that we are most interestedin including how the archive tries to documentPittsburgh’s African American community to tell theirstory both at the archive but also by supporting otherartistic endeavors that use the archive. She will havephotographs in her presentation, but she is also willingto bring exhibition prints, including those that detail thetechniques that Teenie Harris developed to photographpeople with dark-skin because the standardphotographic developing techniques at the time wereinsufficient. She said that she wouldn’t charge usbecause it is a part of her outreach work for the archivebut we can give her an honorarium. The board asked foran outline of her talk two weeks prior to theconference. CPC chairs, Pat Roncevich and DeniseNovak, are also going to visit the archive to see a roughdraft of the presentation and help tailor it to the NASIGaudience’s interests. CPC asked when they can beginpublicizing the opening speaker and the board toldthem they can begin sending messages through EugeniaBeh for the blog and then they can be sent out via socialmedia and email blasts.
