The iron ore market is currently developing in a very competitive environment, characterized byoversupply of the product, unstable demand, volatility in prices, unstable external costs and rivalryamong participants, mainly among large producers, this has generated pressure growing amongcompanies in that industrial sector, and Venezuela, as a medium producer, is also affected by thissituation. Given this scenario, competitiveness has become of vital importance for miningcompanies. The objective of this article is to evaluate the competitiveness of Venezuelan ironmining. The study was conducted on a sample of 12 iron mining companies in the world, whichaccounted for 63.6% of the world iron ore market in 2016. The study revealed that Venezuela haslost competitiveness and that it requires serious adjustments in its internal processes that allowimproving efficiency and profitability to ensure sustainability.
