The tangram is a familiar puzzlethat consists of seven pieces, each of which is composed ofa number of identical isoscelesright triangles. A typical tangrampuzzle requires one to arrangethese pieces into a given shape, perhaps with certain restrictionsor side constraints. Of course, thesolver sees only the final silhouetteof the shape and not the borders between the pieces! This book boasts more than one hundred tangram puzzlesand their solutions. Multiple illustrations adorn almostevery page. Most of the puzzles in the book require piecesto share a common edge; that is, mere corner-to-cornercontact is not permitted. The authors state that most ofthe puzzles are original, although some of them are basedon classical examples. The puzzles are divided into fourcategories. The first batch (17 puzzles) requires the useof a complete tangram set. The next group (33 puzzles)forbids the use of one or more pieces in each construction. The third chapter (40 puzzles) involves multiple tangramsets. The final part (13 puzzles) discusses variations on thetangram theme.
