Abstract ‘Grasslands Muster’ browntop (Agrostis capillaris L.) has been bred for grazing on moist lower-fertility sites such as hill country. It is derived largely from plants collected in moist hill country of New Zealand. Compared with commercial (non-bred) lines of browntop tested in both hill country and lowland trials, Muster was consistently more productive and palatable. It was also more resistant to leaf diseases, intermediate in tiller density, and produced high seed yields.
