Abstract:Objective To evaluate the application of closedhub infusion set with protected connections in intravenous infusion in pediatric clinic and summarize the related nursing measures. Methods A total of 190 pediatric patients from March, 2012 to March, 2013 were selected as the control group, another 200 pediatric patients from April, 2013 to June, 2014 were recruited as the observation. The intravenous infusion was performed and capped with heparin cap in the control group, while the observation was given closedhub infusion set with protected connection (QSyte closed luer access splitseptum). The indwelling time of needle, catheterrelated complications were compared between two groups. Results The indwelling time of needle was longer in the observation group than that of controls, with a significant difference (P<0.05). The observation group had lower incidences of intravenous extravasation, catheter tip dislocation, phlebitis and catheter blockage compared with the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Application of QSyte closed luer access splitseptum can reduce the risk of phlebitis and catheter blockage in intravenous infusion in pediatric clinic. Nursing measures on sterile operation, complication monitoring, health education and psychology guidance should be carried out to improve the treatment compliance of pediatric patients.
