Wereportontheresultsofapost-periastronASCAobservationofthePSRB1259a€“63system,containinga48mspulsarorbitingaBestarinaneccentric3.4yrorbit.TheASCAobservationwascarriedouton1994February28whentheradiopulsarwasagainvisibleafteraprolonged40-dayradioeclipseneartoperiastron.ThesourcewasclearlydetectedwithanX-rayluminosity(1a€“10keV)LXof(1.03?±0.09)?—1034(d/2kpc)2ergsa?’1,wheredisthepulsar'sdistance.TheX-rayspectrumiswell-representedbyasinglepower-lawmodelofthephotonindex,?±=1.61?±0.06,andasmallphotoelectricabsorption,NH=(5.6?±0.6)?—1021cma?’2.NosignificantX-raypulsationsweredetected,andtheupperlimitforthepulsedcomponentwasestimatedtobe15%ofthetotalX-rayflux,assumingsinusoidalmodulation.ThecharacteristicsoftheX-rayemissiondetectedon1994February28aresimilartothosedetectedbyASCAnearperiastronwhenthepulsedradioemissionfromPSRB1259-63waseclipsed.Ourresultsstronglyfavoranon-thermalmodelofX-rayemissiondrivenbysynchrotronradiationfromrelativisticshockedparticlesinthepulsarwindinteractingwiththeoutflowfromtheBestarcompanion.
