IfUltra-HighEnergyCosmicRays(UHECRs)originatefromnearbygalaxies,modelingofthedistributionofnearbygalaxiesisimportantforanaccurateestimateofthesourcenumberdensityofUHECRs.WeinvestigatetheuncertaintyoftheselectionfunctionoftheOpticalRedshiftSurvey(ORS),whichweusetoconstructasourcemodelofUHECRs.TheinvestigationisbasedonacomparisonofthenumbercountsofORSgalaxieswiththoseoftheSloanDigitalSkySurvey(SDSS)EarlyDataRelease(EDR).Wecarefullycountgalaxiesofthesameabsolutemagnitudebinfromtwosamples.WefindaslightsystematicoverestimateoftheORScountsoutside$$5000,mathrm{km},mathrm{s}^{-1}$$byaboutafactorof2,andrevisetheselectionfunctionoftheORS.TherevisionshouldbetakenintoaccountinanyfutureanalysisofthesourcenumberdensityofUHECRsbasedontheORS.Usingtherevisedselectionfunction,wedeterminedtheglobalstructureoftheLocalSupercluster(LSC)withasourcemodelofUHECRsconsistingofauniformsphericalhaloandanexponentialdisk.WefindthattherevisionisinsignificantintermsofthestructureoftheLSC.However,therevisedselectionfunctionwillbeusefulforotherstudies,suchasthoseinvolvingapeculiarvelocityandthecorrelationfunction.
