Wepresentaseriesofnumericalexperimentsthatmodeltheevolutionofmagneticfluxtubeswithadifferentamountofinitialtwist.Asaresultofcalculations,tightlytwistedtubesrevealarapidtwo-stepemergencetotheatmospherewithaslightslowdownatthesurface,whileweaklytwistedtubesshowaslowtwo-stepemergencewaitinglongerthesecondaryinstabilitytobetriggered.Thispictureofthetwo-stepemergenceishighlyconsistentwithrecentobservations.Thesetubesshowmultiplemagneticdomesabovethesurface,indicatingthatthesecondaryemergenceiscausedbyaninterchangemodeofmagneticbuoyancyinstability.Inthecaseoftheweakesttwist,thetubeexhibitsanelongatedphotosphericstructure,andneverrisesintothecorona.Theformationofthephotosphericstructureisduetoaninwardmagnetictensionforceoftheazimuthalfieldcomponentoftherisingfluxtube(i.e.,tube'stwist).Whenthetwistisweak,theazimuthalfieldcannotholdthetube'scoherency,andthetubeextendslaterallyatthesubadiabaticsurface.Inaddition,wenewlyfoundthatthetotalmagneticenergymeasuredabovethesurfacedependsontheinitialtwist.Strongtwisttubesfollowtheinitialrelationbetweenthetwistandthemagneticenergy,whileweaktwisttubesdeviatefromthisrelation,becausethesetubesstoretheirmagneticenergyinthephotosphericstructure.
