Dwarf Nova-Like Outburst of Short-Period Intermediate Polar HT Camelopardalis

Wereportonthefirsttime-seriesobservationsofashortoutburstoftheproposedintermediatepolarHTCam($$=$$RXJ0757.0$$+$$6306).On2001December29,wedetectedthattheobjectwasundergoingabrightoutburstatamagnitudeof$$m_mathrm{vis}=12.2$$.Followingthisdetection,westartedinternationaljointobservationsthroughVSNET.Thelightcurveshowedagradualdeclineforthefirst0.5d.Followingthisshortplateauphase,therateofdeclinedramaticallyincreasedtomorethan$$4,mathrm{mag},mathrm{d}^{-1}$$.Within1.5dfromtheoutburstdetection,theobjectalmostdeclinedtothequiescentlevel.Duringtherapidlydecliningphase,long-termmodulationswithaperiodof86minandstrongpulseswithaperiodof8.6minwereobserved.Weconcludedthat86minand8.6minaretheorbitalperiodandthespinperiodofHTCam,respectively.Bydetectingthespinperiod,weconfirmedtheIPclassificationofHTCam.However,itsoutburstbehaviorratherresemblesthatofdwarfnovae.Thediscrepancybetweenthedecliningratesofthetotalfluxandthepulsefluxstronglysuggeststhatdiskinstabilitiestookplaceduringtheoutburst.
