ThenewlyoperationalX-raysatelliteSuzakuobservedthesouthwesternquadrantofthesupernovaremnantRCW86in2006Februarytostudythenatureofthe6.4a€‰keVemissionlinefirstdetectedwiththeAdvancedSatelliteforCosmologyandAstronomy(ASCA).Thenewdataconfirmtheexistenceoftheline,localizingitforthefirsttime;mostofthelineemissionisadjacentandinteriortotheforwardshock,andnotatthelocusofthecontinuumhardemission.Wealsoreportthefirstdetectionofa7.1a€‰keVline,whichweinterpretas$$mathrm{K}eta$$emissionfromlow-ionizationiron.TheFeKlinefeaturesareconsistentwithanon-equilibriumplasmaofFe-richejectawith$$n_{mathrm{e}},tlesssim10^{9},mathrm{cm}^{-3},mathrm{s}$$and$$kT_{mathrm{e}}sim5,mathrm{keV}$$.Thiscombinationoflow$$n_{mathrm{e}},t$$andhigh$$kT_{mathrm{e}}$$suggestscollisionlesselectronheatinginanSNRshock.TheFe$$mathrm{K}alpha$$lineshowsevidenceforintrinsicbroadening,withawidthof47(34a€“59)eV(99%errorregion).Thedifferenceinthespatialdistributionsofthehardcontinuumabove3a€‰keVandtheFeKlineemissionsupportsasynchrotronoriginforthehardcontinuum.
