InordertoelucidatestarformationintheLMC,wemadeacompletestudyofCOcloudswithNANTEN.Inthepresentpaper,wecompare55giantmolecularclouds(GMCs),whosephysicalquantitieswerewelldetermined,withyoungobjects,suchasyoungstellarclustersandHiiregions.WefindthattheGMCsareactivelyformingstarsandclusters;23and40arefoundtobeassociatedwiththeclustersandtheHiiregions,respectively.TheclustersassociatedwiththeGMCsaresignificantlyyoung;$$sim85%$$ofthemareyoungerthan$$sim10,mathrm{Myr}$$.Inaddition,compactgroupsoftheyoungclustersareoftenfoundatthepeakpositionoftheGMCs,e.g.,N159andN44,whilemuchloosergroupsareawayfromtheGMCs.Thissuggeststhattheclustersareformedingroupsanddisperseastheybecomeold.ThedistributionsoftheCO,[Cii],andUVindicatethattheGMCsarelikelytoberapidlydissipatedwithinseveralMyrduetoUVphotonsfromtheclusters.WealsoestimatetheevolutionarytimescaleoftheGMCs;theyformstarsinafewMyraftertheirbirth,andformclustersduringthenextfewMyr,andaredissipatedinthesubsequentfewMyr.
