Therotationcurveofthesmall-massstarburstgalaxyM82hasasteepnuclearrise,peakingat200pcradius,whichthendeclinesinaKeplerianfashion.Thisrotationcurvemimicsthatforacentralbulgeofspiralgalaxieswithahighconcentrationofstellarmass.Thedecliningrotationindicatesthatitsextendeddiskmassismissing.Inordertoexplainthispeculiarrotationcharacteristic,weproposeahypothesisthatM82isasurvivingcentralbulgeofamuchlargerdiskgalaxy,whoseouterdiskwastruncatedduringacloseencounterwithM81.Wesimulatedatidaltruncationofthediskofacompaniongalaxybyatidalpenetrationthroughitsmoremassiveparentgalaxy.ThemodelcanwellreproducetheobservedpeculiarfeatureofM82.
