TheXUVDopplerTelescope(XDT)isasoundingrocketexperimentdesignedtodetectflowsinthesolarcoronausingfilterratios.TheXDT,successfullylaunchedon1998January31,isanormalincidencetelescopecomposedofnarrow-bandpassmultilayermirrorsandcapableofobtainingimages2?…aboveand2?…belowtheFeXIV211?…(T=1.7MK)emissionline.Ithasthepotentialtomakeavelocitymapoftheentiresolardiskwithjustafewminutesofobservation.TheimageratiomapsshowfeaturesthattranslatetoDopplershiftsof200kmsa?’1ormore,includingseveral`redshift'featureslocatednearfootpointsofcoronalloops.However,nocorrespondingvelocityfeatureswereseenbytheSolarandHeliosphericObservatory(SOHO)CoronalDiagnosticSpectrometer(CDS)intheMgIX368?…(T=1MK)line,suggestingthatthefeaturesarenotcausedbyDopplershift.Instead,thefeaturesseemtoberelatedtocontaminationoflowertemperature(T1MK)emissionlinesandthenearbydensity-sensitiveFeXIIIlines.WeconcludethatwhilenoflowswerepositivelyidentifiedbytheXDT,thisobservingtechniqueiscapableofdetectingflowsof1000kmsa?’1independently,and200kmsa?’1whencombinedwithsimultaneousplasmadiagnosticobservation.
