ThenearbystarburstgalaxyNGC253wasmappedintheammonia$$(J,K)=(1,1),(2,2)$$,and$$(3,3)$$linesinthe23a€‰GHzregionwiththeVeryLargeArray.Theangularresolutionswereabout$$4{{}^{primeprime}} imes3{{}^{primeprime}}$$.Thedistributionsofthethreelinesweredifferentfromoneanother.The$$(1,1)$$and$$(3,3)$$linesweredistributedalongthebarmainlyatthenortheasternandsouthwesternregionsfromthecenter,butthe$$(2,2)$$lineisdistributedmainlyattwoclumpsinthesouthwesternregionfromthecenter.Inaddition,the$$(1,1)$$lineshowedabsorptionatthecentralregion.Theobtainedrotationaltemperatureswere$$15hbox{--}28,mathrm{K}$$(lowerlimit),dependingontheclumps.Theammoniadistributionsaregenerallyconsistentwithestimatesfromoursingle-dishresultsalreadypublished.Thedistributionsofammoniawerecomparedwiththoseofcontinuumandseveralothermolecularlines.
