Weconsiderthepropertiesofgiantmolecularcloudcomplexesinthestar-formingregionW43witharesolutionofseveralpcscale,anddiscusstheirrelationstotheevolutionarystagesofmassivestarformation.WeperformedaNH$$_{3}$$($$J$$,$$K$$)$$=$$(1,1),(2,2),and(3,3)inversion-linesurveywiththeHokkaidoUniversity11-mtelescope.Among51observedpositions,selectedbasedonintegratedintensitymapsof$$^{13}$$CO($$J$$$$=$$1a€“0),thesethreeemissionsweredetectedfrom21,8,and5positions,respectively.TheintegratedintensityoftheNH$$_{3}$$($$J$$,$$K$$)$$=$$(1,1)linewasfoundtobeproportionaltothefar-infraredluminosity,estimatedfromIRASdata.Therotationtemperatureswerededucedtobe$$sim$$15a€“20Kateightobservedpositions.Inaddition,theupperlimitswereestimatedfor13positions,whichincludetherelativelylowtemperaturesbelow14KattwopositionswitharelativelyhighfractionsofNH$$_{3}$$for$$^{13}$$COandwithalowfar-infraredluminosity.Wederivedtheortho-to-paraabundanceratioofNH$$_{3}$$.Fromthepopulationdistributionbetweentheortho-andpara-levelsofNH$$_{3}$$,wealsoderivedtemperaturesof$$sim$$6a€“12K,whichmaybeinterpretedasthetemperatureswhenNH$$_{3}$$moleculeswereformed.Wediscusstherelevanceofthepresentresultsofourobservationstothemassivestar-formationprocessandthecurrentstatusoftheW43regionwhiletakingintoaccountpreviousobservationsofotherindicatorsofmassivestarformation.Itisshownthatthecomplexescontainseveralregionsindifferentevolutionarystages,orwiththedistinctcharacteristicsofstarformationwithinatimescalesshorterthanthelifetimeofmassivestars.
