TheEUVImagingSpectrometer(EIS)ontheHinodesatelliteiscapableofmeasuringemissionlinecenterpositionsforGaussianlineprofilestoafractionofaspectralpixel,resultinginrelativesolarDoppler-shiftmeasurementswithanaccuracyofalessthanakms$$^{-1}$$forstronglines.Weshowanexampleoftheapplicationofthatcapabilitytoanactiveregionsit-and-stareobservationinwhichtheEISslitisplacedatonelocationontheSunandmanyexposuresaretakenwhilethespacecrafttrackingkeepsthesamesolarlocationwithintheslit.Fortheactiveregionexamined(NOAA10930),wefindthatsignificantintensityandDoppler-shiftfluctuationsasafunctionoftimearepresentatanumberoflocations.Thesefluctuationsappeartobesimilartothoseobservedinhigh-temperatureemissionlineswithotherspace-bornespectroscopicinstruments.Withitsincreasedsensitivityoverearlierspectrometersanditsabilitytoimagemanyemissionlinessimultaneously,EISshouldprovidesignificantnewconstraintsonDoppler-shiftoscillationsinthecorona.
