Weanalyzeddiscretesourcesinatypicalstarburstgalaxy,NGC1808,withChandrainordertostudytherelationbetweenX-rayandstar-formingactivities.Wedetectedthirty-eightX-raysourceswithanX-rayluminosity($$L_{ mX}$$)of$$gt$$10$$^{37}$$ergs$$^{-1}$$inthecentral5$$^{prime} imes$$5$$^{prime}$$(13.4kpc$$ imes$$13.4kpc)region.About90%ofthehardX-rayspreviouslydetectedwithASCAcamefromthesediscretesources.Amongthedetectedsources,sixteensourceshadan$$L_{ mX}$$of$$gt$$10$$^{38}$$ergs$$^{-1}$$.ThenumberofluminoussourcesisnearlyequaltothatofM82,althoughtheirconcentrationintothecentralstar-formingregionislowerthanthatofM82.ThereareseveralsoftX-raysourceswithatemperatureof0.6keVinthecentralstar-formingregion.TheX-raypropertiesofthesoftsourcesaresimilartothoseofaHIIregion,orasupernovaremnant.TheexistenceofbothluminoussourcesandsoftX-raysourcesindicatesthestar-formingactivityofNGC1808.However,wedetectedonlyafewcandidatesofhigh-massX-raybinariesthatwouldbeproducedbyenhancedstar-formingactivity.ThismaybeduetothestarburstageofNGC1808.
