WepresentananalysisofaSuzakuobservationofthelinkregionbetweenthegalaxyclustersA399andA401.Weobtainedthemetallicityoftheintraclustermedium(ICM)uptotheclustervirialradiiforthefirsttime.Wedeterminedthemetallicitywherethevirialradiiofthetwoclusterscrosseachother($$sim2$$Mpcawayfromtheircenters)andfoundthatitiscomparabletothatintheirinnerregions($$sim0.2:Z_odot$$).Itisunlikelythattheuniformityofmetallicityuptothevirialradiiisduetomixingcausedbyaclustercollision.Sincetheram-pressureistoosmalltostriptheinterstellarmediumofgalaxiesaroundthevirialradiusofacluster,thefairlyhighmetallicitythatwefoundthereindicatesthatthemetalsintheICMarenottransportedfrommembergalaxiesbyram-pressurestripping.Instead,theuniformitysuggeststhattheproto-clusterregionwasextensivelypollutedwithmetalsbyextremelypowerfuloutflows(superwinds)fromgalaxiesbeforetheclustersformed.Wealsosearchedfortheoxygenemissionfromthewarm-hotintergalacticmediuminthatregionandobtainedastrictupperlimitofthehydrogendensity($$n_{ mH}4.1 imes10^{-5}$$cm$$^{-3}$$).
