Spectral Evolution of GRB060904A Observed with Swift and Suzaku- Possibility of Inefficient Electron Acceleration

WeobservedanX-rayafterglowofGRB060904AwiththeSwiftandSuzakusatellites.WefoundrapidspectralsofteningduringboththeprompttailphaseandthedeclinephaseofanX-rayflareintheSwift/BATandSwift/XRTdata.Theobservedspectrawerefitbypower-lawphotonindiceswhichrapidlychangedfrom$$Gamma=$$1.51$$^{+0.04}_{-0.03}$$to$$Gamma=$$5.30$$^{+0.69}_{-0.59}$$withinafewhundredseconds.ThisisoneofthesteepestX-rayspectraeverobserved,makingitquitedifficulttoexplainbysimpleelectron-accelerationandsynchrotron-radiationprocesses.Wethenappliedanalternativebrokenpower-lawwithexponentialcutoff(BPEC)model.Itisvalidtoconsidertheexponentialshapeisequivalenttoasynchrotroncutoff.SincethespectralcutoffappearsinthesoftX-rayband,weconcludethattheelectronaccelerationmustbeinefficientintheinternalshocksofGRB060904A.Thesecutoffspectrasuddenlydisappearedattheendoftheprompttail.Afterthat,typicalafterglowspectrawith$$Gamma=$$2.0havebeencontinuouslyandpreciouslymonitoredbybothSwift/XRTandSuzaku/XIS.Wecouldsuccessfullytracethetemporalhistoryoftwocharacteristicbreakenergiesthathaveatimedependenceof$$proptot^{-3}$$-$$t^{-4}$$,whilethefollowingafterglowspectraarequitestable.Thisfactindicatesthattheemittingmaterialoftheprompttailisduetocompletelydifferentdynamicsfromtheshallowdecaycomponent.Therefore,theemissionsitesoftwodistinctphenomenaobviouslydifferfromeachother.
