Microstructure and porosity formation of spray-formed GCr15 steel billets

Dense billets of GCr15 bearing steel were successfully fabricated by spray forming. Microstructure and porosity of spray-formed GCr15 steel under different spray conditions were analyzed. The results show that the microstructure of as-sprayed GCr15 steel is composed of refining pearlite, and different spraying conditions caused a different size of pearlite colonies. Besides, the chemical composition remains high homogeneity in the spray-formed billet. The morphologies and distribution of porosity are mainly determined by the thermal condition of spray forming. The increase of the GMR (gas to metal mass ratio) leads to the porosity evolution from interstitial pore to gas pore.
