摘要

The role ofCommunity Health Workers (CHWs) has been quite important since long. With time, changes occur in the nature of services delivered by them. From being a provider, their role got extended to bringing change in the behaviour of community members. They amplify the voices of the local people to a level where, otherwise, they cannot reach. They are called by different names in different countries. In India the latest band of CHWs are ASHAs meaning hope in Hindi, who were launched with the aim to fill the gap in the human resources and to extend health services to the rural part of the country. The present paper will analyze impact of selected socio- demographic factors of ASHAs on the health services provided by them, focusing specially on the impact on maternal and child health services. An attempt has been made to assess the impact of age and education of health workers on the services provided by them to the community members by using primary data collection tools like interview schedule, FGDs etc. in the rural part of northern India, particularly western Uttar Pradesh. The results suggest that overall ASHAs educated from 8~(th) to12~(th) standard and aged 35-40 years were performing well in comparison to other.
