Investigation of best parameters’ combinations for coordinate measuring technique

This manuscript demonstrates the selection of the best parameters’ combinations (BPCs) of the contact coordinate measurements of four different free-form surfaces (FFSs). The parameters: time of masking of measured points, scanning velocity, and distance between measured points were selected to investigate the BPCs. The levels of each parameter were estimated, based on the expert knowledge of the user of a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). The BPCs are the combinations that provide the form deviations closest to those calculated by using the reference parameters derived mainly from the recommendations of a CMM manufacturer. The selection of the BPCs was made, based on statistical analysis of the coordinate measurements’ results that had been obtained using the robust design approach (RDA). The measurements were taken for the selected FFSs by use of the coordinate measuring machine, ACCURA II, equipped with the VAST XT measuring probe.
