The tolerance of design specification has been well accepted as an established quantity in design and manufacturing. However, the tolerance of customers’ requirements has not received comparable amount of attention in academic and industry. The possibility of providing different alternatives through customers’ tolerance creates economic value. With the emerging abundance of data from customers and providers, applying tolerances for economic advantage becomes possible. This paper presents a survey of recent works in describing requirement tolerances. Comparing the pros and cons of different approaches is also reported.
