Ceramic samples of BaTi0.95 Sn 0.05 O 3 (BTS) were preparedby the conventional solid stateme thod and the influence of different dopingamounts of Sm 2 O 3 addition onphasecomposition, microstructure and dielectric properties of BTS c eramic s wereinvestigated. From the XRD patterns, the results showthat all samples exhibited pureperovskite phase with no impurity phase which suggestedthat Sm 3+ can be dissolved in theBTS to form a uniform solid solution. A small amount of doped Sm 2 O 3 can refine grains toa certain extent and improve the density of the ceramic body, which is beneficial toimprove the dielectric properties of the samples. In asmall amount of doping, Sm 3+ firstenters the A site of the BTS ceramic toreplace Ba 2+2+, causing l attice distortion due tointernal stress andincreasing the dielectric constant. The samples have the highest dielectricconstant (ε = 3508) and the lowe r dielectric loss (tanδ =0.018) at a sintering temperature of1330℃ with 0.4mol% Sm 3+ doping, showing exc ellent dielectric properties.Appropriateamount of doped Sm 2 O 3 alsohas a certain peak lift, so that the dielectric peak of ceramicsamplesincreased, but the Curie peak shift is not obvious.
