Introduction: Quality improvement and patient safety are two of the most important aspects of healthcare delivery systems, which are consistently considered by hospitals. Quality and safety in hospitals can be promoted through accreditation, which constantly emphasizes on improving quality of care, patient safety, and care providers’ knowledge. This study aimed to evaluate quality of care and safety of patients in Farabi Eye Hospital using Joint Commission International (JCI) standards, which is known as the world's most complete accreditation program. Materials and Methods:This descriptive, analytical study was carried out in Farabi Hospital, Tehran, Iran, 2014. The data collection tool was the translated version of JCI checklist the validity of which was confirmed by a panel of Iranian experts. Afterwards, the researchers completed the checklist by interviews with the respective hospital authorities and investigating documentation?in each department. To analyze the data Spearman’s correlation coefficient and Mann-Whitney U tests were run using SPSS Version 16. Results: The highest rate of compliance with JCI standards was 91.1%. The lowest rate pertained to management attention to patients’ demographic information. In general, Farabi Eye Hospital had a relatively favorable level compliance with of JCI standards. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated that Farabi Eye Hospital has a relatively satisfactory status in terms of improving quality of care and patient safety. Discontinued policies, inadequate documentation, and absence of comprehensive training programs were the most important shortcomings of the hospital.
