Nanoparticles for the Treatment of Lung Cancers

On the row of various cancers in the world, the Lung cancer falls to number two in both female and male. Various surgical and non-surgical therapeutic approaches including chemotherapy, photodynamic therapy, and radiotherapy are employed in the treatment of lung cancer. However, most of these techniques are costly, complex and lacks patient compliance. In case of chemotherapy, it is associated with lack of specific tumour targeting, with limited drug solubility leads insufficient amount of drug reaches to a tumor site. To overcome these demerits associated with chemotherapy, various types of nanoparticles (both organic and inorganic) are synthesized and studied in treating lung cancers. In this article, we have reviewed the various types of nanoparticles that have been used in treating lung cancers. This review was carried out by searches of relevant published articles, reviews and abstracts in PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, clinicaltrials.gov, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and Google Scholar of all English language articles. The following search terms were used: Lung cancer, Target delivery, animal models, Nanoformulation, Nanoparticles and Polymeric Nanoparticles.
