摘要

We report a 70-year-old lady with ulcerative colitis who developed thrombocytopenia two weeks after starting oral mesalaminetreatment. Though sulfasalazine has often been reported to cause blood disorders, mesalamine has rarely been implicated as acause of serious blood disorders. Few patients have already been described who developed thromb ocytopenia with mesalamine,but the duration of exposure to the drug before development of thrombocytopenia was more than 2 months in all those cases, andrecovery took several weeks to months. This case report underlines the potential of mesalamine to cause thromb ocytopenia aftera short duration of exposure, in an idiosyncratic fashion
