Emphysematous pyelonephritis is a life-threatening infection that results from complicated pyelonephritis by gas producingorganisms. It is an acute necrotising infection of the kidney that occurs predominantly in diabetic patients. Patients frequentlypresent with sepsis and ketoacidosis. Escherichia coli appears to be the most frequent organism responsible for this infection. Wepresent a case of emphysematous pyelonephritis in a non-diabetic woman with intrauterine death of foetus at 20 weeks gestationwho did not have features of obstruction of the urinary tract and was managed conservatively
