Foetal medicine is a sub-speciality of obstetrics whichfocuses on foetal health, maintenance of foetal growthand well-being. The concept of recognising the foetusas a patient – separate from the mother – is the basis ofthis science. It involves experts from various specialities– obstetricians, paediatric car diologists, paediatricneurologists, and geneticists1. This ar ticle is an attemptto look into recent advances in the field of foetalmedicine.In the past two decades, this branch underwent significantchanges. Advancement in foetal medicine involvesdiagnosing and treating the foetus in utero. Previously,treatment was possible only during the neonatal period2.Advancements in foetal medicine help in diagnosingfoetal problems pre-natally and offer the possibility ofmanagement before birth as also optimising post-nataltreatment
