At the time of publication, we were unaware that Breitkopf and coauthors (reference above) had recently reported that recombinant Moth_0864 and Moth_1181 proteins from Moorella thermoacetica possessed phosphotransacetylase activity. Based on their findings, Breitkopf and coauthors speculated that these proteins might be involved in the formation of acetate in M. thermoacetica. We apologize for overlooking this article, which contains information of central importance to our paper in which we describe work focused on the activity of these proteins in M. thermoacetica.
