Mobile technologies like GSM, UMTS or LTE are very interesting for distributed automation applications. On the one hand these mobile technologies are available and widely distributed. On the other hand these mobile technologies are not developed for industrial application with essential requirement for reliability and availability. In practice a user of an industrial communication system expects a certain process value at a certain interface within a defined time frame without any errors under defined conditions. Therefor the time and error characteristics of the mobile technologies; which are mostly unknown, must be analysed from the point of view of the industrial automation application.So this paper will give an approach for the performance analysis and characterisation of mobile technologies (GSM, UMTS, LTE) for industrial automation application. A set of adequate characteristic parameter will present for performance characterisation of mobile technologies. Moreover measurement result will analyse and present in this paper.
