As we enter the third decade of theAIDS pandemic, numerous textsexplore the many aspects of AIDS andits consequences. Mayer and Pizer'spremise is that AIDS has transformedmany of the disciplines that it hastouched. For the most part, this well-written volume supports their thesis.The authors, all establishedresearchers, tackle many of the majorissues, including virology, immunolo-gy, vaccines, microbicides, and sexu-ally transmitted diseases, as well asthe global impact of HIV/AIDS. Eachchapter provides a well-referencedoverview of its topic with many refer-ences as recent as 2003
