To the Editor: Mycobacteriumhaemophilum was first described in1978 by Sompolinsky et al. (1) as thecause of cutaneous infections in apatient with Hodgkin disease. Sincethen, fewer than 100 cases have beenreported worldwide, mostly amongimmunocompromised patients (2),although M. haemophilum infectionhas also been described in immuno-competent patients as the cause of cer-vical, submandibular, and perihilarlymphadenopathy in children and ofpulmonary nodules in an adult (3–5).Cases have been reported from UnitedStates, Australia, Canada, France,Israel, and the United Kingdom, but todate no reports have originated inSouth America.
