摘要

To the Editor: Coinfection withHIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV) isnow a major public health concernworldwide, owing both to its highprevalence (4–5 million persons of 40million infected by HIV) and to inter-actions between the 2 diseases interms of their diagnosis, naturalcourse, and treatment (1,2). AlthoughAfrica is the continent by far the mostbadly affected by both HIV and HCVinfections, data on coinfection in thegeneral population are lacking. InCameroon, a central African country, the HCV seroprevalence is among thehighest in the world (13.8%) (3). Wehave also reported a high seropreva-lence of HIV in a general populationof southern Cameroon (7.4%), andespecially in young women (22.5%)(4). Here, we investigated the preva-lence of HIV/HCV coinfection in thispopulation
