摘要

Seroepidemiologic studies of Pneumocystis pneumo-nia (PCP) in humans have been limited by inadequatereagents. We have developed an enzyme-linkedimmunosorbent assay (ELISA) using three overlappingrecombinant fragments of the human Pneumocystis majorsurface glycoprotein (MsgA, MsgB, and MsgC) for analysisof antibody responses in HIV-positive patients and healthyblood donors. HIV-positive patients had significantly higherantibody levels to all Msg fragments. Furthermore, HIV-positive patients who experienced a previous episode ofPCP (PCP-positive) had higher levels of antibodies toMsgC than patients who never had PCP. A significant asso-ciation was found between ELISA antibody level and reac-tivity by Western blot in HIV-positive patients, especiallythose who were PCP-positive. Thus, this ELISA will be use-ful in studying serum antibody responses to Pneumocystisin different human populations
