Education is a series of processes that develop ability, attitude and behavior of the individual in the society. The entire process is based on the individual's own experiences. The education system consists of formal and non-formal education sub-systems as a whole. Vocational education is a very important part of an aesthetician education program. Vocational education is generally defined as “a process of developing a person's physical, intellectual, emotional, social as well as economic capabilities so that the person can acquire the knowledge and practical skills required by his profession&find suitable employment” (Hac?o?lu, 1992). In formal and non-formal education institutions offering esthetician education programs, skilled labor training is planned according to consumer demands concerning techniques for hair, body and skin care, epilation, makeup, hand and toe nail care. The esthetician education in Turkey is performed in two different programs as formal and non-formal training. Institutions offering formal education consist of professional secondary and higher education esthetician training schools. Non-formal esthetician training, on the other hand, is offered in the form of short-term vocational courses conducted by both public and private institutions. The competition between both hairdressing and cosmetic companies as well as among international cosmetic firms increases the importance of the esthetician training. In this competitive environment, one of the fundamental conditions of competition is skilled labor. Competitive advantage in the sector can be achieved by employing qualified estheticians who have received quality education. The importance of esthetician training in the sector was investigated.
