The Risk of Facial Fillings Aesthetic Procedures: A Case Report

Facial cosmetic procedures are on increasing demand, for plastic surgeons and dental professionals now-a-days. New techniquesapplied for the renewal offacial contours have become the frst treatment option before surgical corrections. This case reporthighlights some of the risks related to such procedures, reporting a case of a painful ?uctuating nodule in the midline of the vestibularsulcus, extending towards the upper lip. The patient mentioned a 2-year history of progression of the lesion. The nodule was 0.8 cmwide, well defned, with normal colour. The excisional biopsy was proposed with initial suspect of pleomorphic adenoma, or othersoft tissue tumour. Microscopic evaluation of the excised lesion revealed a foreign body granuloma caused by multiple spherulesof transparent synthetic material of uniform diameter, identifed as Polymethylmetacrylate (PMMA). The patient then recalled that heunderwent an aesthetic procedure of rhinoplasty with facial flling that he did not correlate with the symptoms.
