The study has been carried out in stands that have been damaged more or less by uncontrolled cuttings. These stands are located in the Bistrita watershed. A great deal of interest has been focussed on assessing the loss of volume increment due to illegal harvesting. The impact of additional quantity of stumpage, which enters the legal market has been addressed to, along with the spatial distribution of affected stands, having in their neighbourhood illegal sawmills, especially in some localities, such as Ceahlau, Grinties, Bicaz Ardelean, Damuc and Bicaz Chei. The study has shown and analysed the consequences of uncontrolled cuttings by taking into account the loss of increment, which occurs in stands affected by illegal cuttings.
