Now that tourism has transformed into a growing commercial trade, which revitalizes local economiesand poverty relief, social scientists were captivated by tourism as a promising theme for their investigations, doctoral thesis and international conferences and congresses worldwide (Benckendor? &Zehrer, 2013; Coles, Hall, & Duval, 2006; Hall, Williams, & Lew, 2004). As Jafari (2001, 2005) appropriately observes, the proliferation in the interest for tourism as an object of study corresponds withthe surface of new paradigms that eludes any subjective judgement in the examination of tourismand its nature. Te scientifcation of tourism leads very well towards the sense of objectivity which isenrooted in the scientifc paradigm. Over the recent years, some critical voices have claimed that theproduced knowledge, far from being unifed in an all-encompassing platform, faces a serious state ofdispersion or fragmentation which is very difcult to reverse (Belhassen & Caton, 2009; Korstanje,Mustelier, & Herrera, 2016; Tirkettle & Korstanje, 2013; Tribe, 1997, 2010). Te current crisis in theepistemology of tourism needs from changing the already-existent paradigms towards new horizonsof research in the short-run. But instead of e?acing the pillars of tourism research as the “radical turn”suggests, Chambers and Raki? (2015) argue convincingly that the edifce of knowledge should be builton the foundations lef by the founding parents of discipline.
