摘要

Lichen simplex chronicus (LSC), isacommonly encountered difficult-to-managecondition thataffects the quality oflife of patients.[1] It tends to followachroniccourse, sometimes in years oreven decades, unless theitch–scratch cycleis broken. If not treated tillit flattenscompletely and clears,exceptsomeresidual pigmentarychanges, recurrencesarefrequent. Thestandard prescription consists oftopicalcorticosteroidsapplied once or twice daily,emollientsand antihistamines.[2] Theresponsetakesalong timeand is generally partial. This leads to frustration. Topicalcorticosteroid under occlusion is used bymany asa modality for managementLSC.[3] Occlusion does providea physical barrier to scratching and permitsenhanced and prolonged application oftopicalmedications. However, it isalmostimpracticalifit has to be used for morethan afewdays. Also, depending on thesiteitmay be difficult to achieveand sometimes socially unacceptable. Moreover,prolonged occlusion can also produceatrophy and depigmentation ofimmediatesurrounding skin.
