In this study, the inhibitive performance of two synthesized thiourea derivatives, namely, 1-(3- mercapto-5-(pyridin-4-yl)-4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)-3-phenylthiourea (MPTP), 1-(3-mercapto-5-(pyridin- 4-yl)-4H-1,2,4-triazol-4-yl)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl) thiourea (MPTMP) were studied for mild steelcorrosion in a 15% HCl solution using weight loss measurements, potentiodynamic polarization, andelectrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The inhibition efficiency of both theinhibitors increased with an increase in the concentration of inhibitor. The inhibitors MPTP andMPTMP show a corrosion inhibition efficiency of 94.3% and 96.8% respectively, in 50 ppmconcentrations at 303 K. Polarization studies showed that both inhibitors studied were of a mixed typein nature. The adsorption of inhibitors on the mild steel surface obey the Langmuir adsorptionisotherm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), UV- Visible spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy (AFM) were performed for a surface study ofuninhibited and inhibited mild steel samples. The semi-empirical AM1 method was employed fortheoretical calculations.
