Understanding the evolution and driving ef-fects of the water use structure is conducive to con-trolling the total water use and ensuring the sustain-able development of the economy, society and ecol-ogy. In this article, we use inform ation entropy and LD M I methods based on 2009-2018 water consump-tion data in Guangxi Province, China to analyze wa-ter consumption structure from the overall aspects (production, residential life and ecology) and pro-duction aspects (agriculture, industry, construction and service industries). The results show that the overall inform ation entropy and equilibrium value of water use in Guangxi gradually increased slowly from 2012, but the overall value is low, w ith the highest values being 0.41 and 0.37, respectively. The unreasonable water use structure is reflected in the fact that the proportion of production water is too large, while the proportion of ecological water is too small. Although the information entropy and equi-librium value of production water are slightly higher, the rationality needs to be improved. Cumulative production effects, residents' living effects and eco-logical effects are negative, that is, they have effec-tively suppressed the increase in water consumption. Among them, the production effect is the most prom-inent, which is 12.57 times and 4.47 times of the res-idents' living and ecological effects, respectively. The effect of water intensity is the main factor that inhibits the increase in total water use, and it has the greatest effect on the suppression of production wa-ter. However, in the structure of production water use, it has the greatest inhibitory effect on agricul-tural water use. The effect of industrial structure plays a secondary role in reducing production water use. The effect of economic development is a key factor in the increase in production, residential life and ecological water use, and it has the strongest ef-fect on production water. In the production water structure, it has the greatest effect on promoting ag-ricultural water use. The effect of population size has a weak effect on the increase in production, residen-tial life and ecological water use. The research has important practical significance and economic valuefor the sustainable and environmental protection of water resources.
