摘要

The relationship between religiosity and mental health is often observed in psychiatric treatment institutions. Given this scenario it is considered important that religious leaders have an understanding of what mental disorders are. It is a descriptive-exploratory study developed in the qualitative research approach. The objective of this research was to know the conceptions of religious leaders about people with mental disorders and how religious accompaniment is offered to this public. A semi-structured interview was used during the period of August to October of 2018, with representatives of three different religions: Catholicism, Protestantism and Spiritualism, all with at least five years of experience as a religious leader, and following at least a person with mental disorder. Thematic content analysis was adopted. The participants were clarified with regard to the Informed Consent Form - EHIC, and all ethical aspects were respected according to Resolution 466/2012 of the National Health Council. The findings of the study showed, among other aspects, that religious leaders recognize the importance specialized treatment for people with mental disorders.
